Drive Thrive Academy

Never drive if you’re upset, highly emotional, or tired

Never drive if you’re upset, highly emotional, or tired—it can seriously impact your ability to focus, stay in control, and be aware of your surroundings. Life happens, and there will be times when you’re faced with heavy traffic, bad weather, or even emotional challenges. If you can avoid these situations, do so. But if you can’t, there are ways to make things easier and safer.

For example, while heavy traffic is sometimes unavoidable, you might adjust by traveling at a less busy time or choosing an alternate route. If you’re tired, take a break. Pull over, stretch, or grab a snack—something refreshing like ice cream often helps me recharge and changes my mood!

If you’re feeling emotional, try calming your mind by listening to uplifting music, a favourite podcast, or thinking about moments that make you happy. If your emotions persist and you don’t feel centered, it’s better to delay driving or ask someone else to take the wheel.

Being proactive and mindful in these situations can keep you safe on the road. Take care of yourself so you can drive with confidence and clarity!
