
Device Rules for New and Young Drivers
If you’re a learner, P1, or P2 driver, strict rules apply to using devices while driving. Breaking these rules can result in fines.
General Rules
When driving, you must not:
🚫 Use or touch any mobile phone or portable device
🚫 Use voice controls
🚫 Enter text, scroll, or view messages, social media, or emails
🚫 Watch videos, play games, or take video calls
🚫 Hold or rest a device on your lap or body
Portable Devices (Phones, Tablets, Laptops, etc.)
🔹 You must not touch or use these devices, even if they’re turned off
🔹 No looking at a screen being used by someone else in the car
🔹 No ongoing activity (e.g., music or navigation) unless set up before driving
🔹 Devices must be in a pocket or secured pouch, not on your lap
Mounted & In-Built Vehicle Systems
✅ You can use a properly mounted device for navigation or playing audio, but only if set up before you start driving
🚫 No scrolling, entering information, or using voice controls while driving
🚫 No touching a mounted device unless adjusting navigation, climate, or audio controls briefly
Wearable Devices (Smartwatches, Glasses, etc.)
🚫 No touching or using voice controls
🚫 No looking at another passenger’s wearable device
✅ Audio streaming is allowed if set up before driving
Bottom Line:
New and young drivers must keep their hands off all devices while driving! If you need to use a phone, park first. Stay safe and focused on the road. 🚗💨
